Data Policy and Governance Analyst

Ambit + Greenzone has a need for a Data Policy and Governance Analyst to work closely with a federal client and their data management teams in support of the development of the client’s data governance program and related compliance projects. Responsibilities

The position works under the direction of the federal client Data Team Lead. The specific duties include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Project/task management, including meeting facilitation, risk management, audit support and oversight, and management of similar compliance functions
  • Engaging with stakeholders to support Data Policy and Governance projects and process improvement initiatives
  • Managing documents, including organizing and maintaining formal documentation such as policies and procedures for governance, audit, or oversight purposes in a centralized repository
  • Tracking and compiling reports on operational data such as status reports and process metrics for senior staff or similar audiences
  • Writing detailed, formal documents, such as meeting minutes for cross-functional committees or internal operating procedures
  • Supporting the monitoring and auditing of formal process controls for compliance with policies and procedures
  • Gathering, maintaining and updating metadata, including restrictions or policy requirements associated with agency data, in the agency metadata repository (data catalog)
  • Supporting team meetings and agency-wide data governance committees, including preparing materials for audiences of varying seniority such as agendas, pre-read materials, and meeting minutes
  • Supporting existing processes for managing data-related issues related to the intake, management, internal use, disclosure, and disposition of information across diverse functional areas
  • Prioritizing work tasks, including identifying and proposing new work

Required Skills and Experience

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust background check.
  • BA/BS in Communications, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years working in a federal IT environment, Office of the Chief Data Officer, or Office of the Chief Information Officer
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written, with various staff levels and teams across the agency, including technical teams
  • Possess and demonstrate the interpersonal and leadership skills to build relationships with key stakeholders, including Data Stewards
  • Proven track record of timely, accurate and complete work, independently managing multiple tasks with changing timelines and deliverables
  • Excellent critical thinking, organizational, problem solving, oral and written communication skills
  • Adaptability and willingness to take on additional tasks as needed

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK) and/or experience with data governance programs and policy development
  • Experience with implementing workflow automation software like SharePoint O365
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience with metadata repository tools like Colibra, Informatica, CKAN (data.gov), etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Visio and/or other process mapping tools
  • Experience with data visualization tools to develop program metrics and dashboards
