Careers at Ambit: Senior Web Server/Communications Gateway Engineer
The National Weather Service (NWS) requires a design and implementation plan for a Telecommunications Gateway (TG), which will guide the acquisition, management, development, and control activities, for the realization of a next-generation TG that will fully support all NWS and NOAA goals and requirements for managing and disseminating weather information. The selected candidate will provide critical hardware engineering expertise in the design of the required next-generation telecommunications gateway architecture for the National Weather Service. In addition to detailed technical architecture components, the resulting gateway design will also include implementation and support planning deliverables. This individual will work with software engineering and project support staff in a fast-paced, distributed team environment.
Minimum/General Experience
5+ years experience in the design, implementation and support of large, IP-centric data processing server/communications gateway facilities.
Minimum Education
BSEE or equivalent
Must Have Skills
- Strong background within, and current knowledge of technical design and configuration requirements for redundant, geo-diverse, load-balanced support of high volume, random burst, data processing requirements.
- In addition to server and communications gateway design, experience must also include the supporting infrastructure (power, cooling, fire suppression) components of server hosting facility design.
- Candidate must possess the ability to effectively contribute within a distributed team environment, as well as be able to consistently think and work independently in accomplishing design objectives and meeting schedule requirements.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment is a must.
- Limited travel (Anticipate 10-15%) within the domestic U.S., as may be required.
Nice To Have Skills
- Knowledge and experience with XML API query-response interconnection and MPLS-based VPN connectivity is desired.
- ITIL-centric standards and best practice process management experience is a plus.
